The four-day event provided EBTC delegates with the opportunity to network with over 4350 delegates from 600 companies/institutes across 21 countries comprising entrepreneurs, senior executives of leading Biotech and pharmaceutical companies, investors, business development teams from large and midsize pharmaceutical companies, and scientists from research institutions.

Indo-European reception was organised during the conference with a panel discussion focusing on ongoing cooperation between India and Europe in the biotechnology sector, future roadmap, increased investments in the sectors of biotechnology and pharmaceuticals in India and Europe, possibilities of joint ventures, developing easy access to markets in India and Europe and jointly developing research projects in Indian research centres. Mr. Poul V. Jensen, Director ­ European Business and Technology Centre was at the podium with other panellists from EU.

In addition, EBTC had an exhibition stand at BioAsia offering EU delegates the unique opportunity to showcase their products and technologies besides business to business meetings with senior company representatives and key decision makers of leading Indian companies, industry experts, government officials and research scholars present at the conference and exhibition. Marking the start of the trade mission on 4 February, the central EBTC office in New Delhi joined hands with the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) to hold a seminar on "Environmental Technologies ­ Opportunities for closer EU-India collaboration". Key objective of the seminar was to share latest technologies and best practices of European companies in the field of environment. Seminar participants and speakers largely agreed that there is still tremendous scope for forging joint ventures in the area of clean technologies that could mutually benefit businessmen and researchers from both sides. During the course of the interaction, EU trade delegates presented their products and clean technology solutions to the 60 seminar participants and had the opportunity to exchange views with Indian government officials, leaders of India's top public-sector undertakings, and senior executive counterparts from Indian cleantech companies.

EU and Indian businesses that connected during the seminar had the opportunity to further their conversations at the common EU-pavilion at the 3rd International Climate Change Exhibition, 5-7 February 2010, taking place on the sidelines of Delhi Sustainable Development Summit 2010. More than 80 direct face-to-face interactions and B2B meetings on the ground provided the European delegates with context, content and confidence in pursuing further their market entry plans. The European cleantech pavilion showcased the vast array of European clean technology capabilities. According to Poul V. Jensen, Director, European Business and Technology Centre, numerous enquiries have been coming in from Indian companies that have heard about EBTC´s cleantech pavilion. The demand for cleantech made in Europe is vast and we are overwhelmed by the response from the Indian business society. The strong involvement from the EU MS commercial departments and bilateral Chambers of commerce in organizing B2B meetings, is a fine example of how the EU Members states and EBTC are joining hands to create a true value added for European companies. As an immediate result of EBTC´s trade mission, 3 EU companies are already in full swing to develop concrete plans to enter India, the world´s fastest growing market for environmental goods and services. The delegation of companies from 8 different European countries was recruited by the European biotechnology partners of EBTC (the Milan Chamber of Commerce, One Nucleus formerly ERBI and ACC1Ó). The delegation objectives were to understand the Indian biotech market and explore cooperation opportunities in the field of biotechnologies associated with climate change and sustainable development. The delegation comprised entrepreneurs and researchers interested in accessing the Indian market, exploring financial opportunities, sharing research projects with Indian partners and developing a research project in Indian research centres in order to increase the levels of trade and knowledge transfer between Europe and India.

The mission programme included business-to-business partnering sessions, company visits, a stand-alone EBTC seminar, case study presentations, panel discussions and networking events.

Marking the start of the trade mission on 31 May, the central EBTC office in New Delhi and the European Biotechnology partners organised a seminar on "How to do business in India" covering a number of topics such as IPR and market access. Most of the companies participating in the mission had little experience of dealing with the Indian market and welcomed the opportunity to understand in more detail the challenges and opportunities offered by it.

On the second day of the mission, EBTC joined hands with the Federation of Micro and Small & Medium Sized Enterprises (FISME) to hold a seminar on "Biotechnology & Climate Change ­ Opportunities for closer EU-India Collaboration". More than 90 Indian companies took part in the seminar, which presented an overview of the European and Indian biotechnology market and highlighted specific opportunities for EU – India collaboration in the Indian biotechnology & climate change market.

The seminar was followed by a Business to Business partnering session which featured a total of 110 meetings between our European delegates and interested Indian companies. The outcome of these meeting was extremely promising and a number of commercial agreements will be signed soon. EBTC will be working closely with the delegates and will follow-up on the developments to derive results.

As part of the mission, the central EBTC office in New Delhi organised 4 site visits to relevant companies in the Bangalore area. The first day of the mission included a visit to Avesthagen Limited and during the following days, site visits were organise to Richcore Lifesciences Pvt. Ltd., Anthem Biosciences, and Advinus Therapeutics.

The 10th edition of Bangalore India Bio 2010, India's premier biotechnology event, included a multi-track conference comprising 25 sessions attended by 738 delegates from across the globe. There were 21 podium presentations and over 135 international and national speakers. There were 5,000 business visitors who attended the event.

The Bio-Partnering initiative received 705 business meetings with 355 delegates attending this session only. The participation from 23 countries included Germany, Europe, Canada, UK, USA, Australia, South America and South East Asia. The Exhibition attracted 154 National and International organizations to show case their innovation. The European delegates thoroughly enjoyed the conference and took full advantage of the Bio-partnering services offered by the organisers.

Led by the European Business and Technology Centre (EBTC), the 13-company strong delegation aimed to find new trading partners, distributors, collaborators, investors and business associates for a wide array of sustainable transport solutions.

As multifold the opportunities for EU transport technologies in India, as diverse were the profiles of EBTC’s transport delegation. The Polish company MIST-ER, for instance, is at the forefront of an innovation revolution in the area of Personal Rapid Transit (PRT) systems, so-called pods, which are driver-less vehicles running on an elevated guideway. Following a presentation before Indian senior government officials, the company MIST-ER sees clear potential for such futuristic transport systems in India, which could mark a new era in public transportation and offer a green solution to congestion and pollution caused by vehicles used for local commuting.

At the start of the trade mission, the EBTC head office in New Delhi organized a stand-alone seminar on ‘Sustainable Transport Solutions: Opportunities for closer EU-India collaboration’. During the course of the interaction, EU trade delegates presented their products and clean technology solutions to more than 80 seminar participants and had the opportunity to exchange views and explore potential partnerships with leaders of India's top public-sector undertakings and senior executives from India's leading transport companies. Among many high-level speakers, Prof. Bruno Dalla Chiara from the Department of Transport Engineering, Politecnico de Torino, partner of the EBTC, highlighted the evolution of transport systems and related energy use in Europe and India.

After more than 160 individual B2B meetings held in New Delhi alone, a number of EBTC delegates travelled to Mumbai, Bangalore and Chennai in order to further business negotiations with relevant Indian counterparts. With the objective of presenting an overview of the EU and Indian Renewable Energy market, highlighting specific opportunities for EU technologies, and to share the latest technologies and best practices of European companies in the field of clean energy, the EBTC in partnership with the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) organized a ‘Round Table Session on EU-India Collaboration – Opportunities in Renewable Energy’, taking place on 26 October. Prominent speakers addressing the more than 120 participants during the inaugural session included V. Subramanian, Secretary General, Indian Wind Power Association, Robert Donkers, Minister Counsellor – Environment, Delegation of the European Union to India, James Abraham, Managing Director, Sunborne Energy Ltd. as well as Poul V. Jensen, Director, European Business and Technology Centre. Christine Lins, Secretary General of the European Renewable Energy Council, opened the technical session by presenting an in-depth overview of the EU's strengths in the area of renewable energy. Following this, Ramesh Kymal, Managing Director, Gamesa Corporation, emphasized the opportunities in the Indian renewable energy sector and addressed the recent technological developments in this field.

The ensuing technical session and interactive dialogue focused on highlighting specific opportunities for European renewable energy technologies in the Indian market and the scope to intensify EU-India collaboration in this area. The session was chaired and moderated by Mark Runacres, Head, British Business Group, New Delhi. Additional panelists included Honorato López, CEO, Aplicaciones de Energías Sustitutivas, Rainer Hinrichs-Rahlwes, President, European Renewable Energies Federation and Uwe Trenkner, former Secretary General, European Solar Thermal Industry Federation. The session chairman presented a series of questions for consideration and discussion by each of the panellists in turn regarding the potential for European renewable energy solutions in India, followed by opening up the floor to all Round-Table participants for their views and questions.The event concluded with closing remarks by Poul V. Jensen, summarizing the highlights of the discussions and the interactive dialogue.

Following this event, EUROCHAMBRES, coordinator of the EBTC, signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII). This MoU represents a shared commitment to further enhance trade between the European Union and India in the area of clean, innovative technology solutions, and pledges strengthened cooperation in knowledge sharing, technology transfer and innovation. With such strong knowledge partner at hand, the EBTC is well-placed to support the transfer of European clean and renewable energy technologies and allow an increasing number of Indian SMEs go green.

From 27-29 October, European DIREC participants had the opportunity to showcase their technology solutions at the 'European Pavilion' in the exhibition area DIREC 2010. More than 25 EU companies used this facility to promote their renewable energy solutions and carry out a total number of 150 individual B2B meetings. The Pavilion was inaugurated by H.E. Danièle Smadja, Ambassador, Head of the Delegation of the European Union to India.
