Transport

Promoting EU - India collaboration in Transport

With the continuous and, in some countries, rapid growth of urbanization, industrialization and use of vehicles for the mobility and freight shipments, the need for new technologies and systems has become urgent, in particular with regard to the use of only one predominant energy source and the effects this is having on climate change.

Various modes of transport, especially by road, cause considerable emissions and air pollution. Thus, the scope for improving the efficiency of existing transport modes and of the mobility is considerable.

As regards the sustainable transport solutions, there is a large potential for introducing cleaner transport installations and technologies, solutions which may not damage the present and future conditions for life, save energy, reduce space requirements for transport and diminish pollution.

Opportunities exist in modal shift towards transport systems operating on fixed installations (rail, rope, metros, automated people movers) and IT services to the transport and logistics community for pursuing intelligent Transport Systems.

Advanced rail and metro systems, ports, road networks and vehicles equipped with telematics, new engines and energy solutions, clean air routes offer the major opportunities.
